I get this question every single week. Couples call me, they've already been Googling for an hour, and they're frustrated because every article either gives them a range so wide it's useless or quotes prices from 2019. So let me just tell you straight. I'm Javier Cortes, founder of Unique Class DJs — we've been doing this in Brooklyn since 1999 — and here's what wedding DJs actually cost in NYC right now.

WHAT DOES A WEDDING DJ COST IN NYC IN 2026?

Prices in NYC run from about $1,500 to $5,000+ depending on who you hire and what you're getting. Here's how I break it down:

Tier Price Range What You Typically Get
Budget / Starter $800–$1,500 Newer DJ, basic sound system, limited music library, DJ-only (no MC)
Mid-Range Professional $1,500–$2,500 Experienced DJ, professional equipment, MC duties handled by DJ, some planning support
Premium / Full-Service $2,500–$4,000 Dedicated DJ + dedicated MC, full consultation, custom music planning, uplighting, backup equipment
Elite / Bilingual $3,500–$5,000+ Bilingual DJ + bilingual MC team, full production, add-ons (photo booth, CO2 cannons, cold sparks), event coordination

PRO TIP FROM JAVIER

At Unique Class DJs, our wedding packages typically range from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the date, hours, and add-ons. Every quote is custom — we don't do cookie-cutter pricing. Call or text us at (347) 200-0315 and we'll give you a real number for your specific event.

WHY DO PRICES VARY SO MUCH?

1. Experience and track record

A DJ with 1,000+ weddings under his belt, real venue relationships, and actual Google reviews is going to cost more than someone who started two years ago. That's just reality. Your wedding isn't a rehearsal — you want someone who's seen everything and knows how to handle it.

2. DJ + MC vs. DJ only

This is probably the biggest thing couples don't think about. A DJ and an MC are two completely different jobs. When one person tries to do both at the same time — ride the music, watch the transitions, AND work the mic — something always slips. At Unique Class DJs, our DJ and MC are always two separate people. Yes, that costs more. But you'll feel the difference the second you walk into your reception.

3. Bilingual service

If half your guest list speaks Spanish — abuelos, tíos, cousins from the island — a bilingual MC isn't a luxury. It's the difference between your whole family being part of the night and half of them sitting there confused. Finding a truly bilingual DJ company in NYC is harder than people think, and that specialty costs what it costs.

4. How many hours you need

Most packages cover 4–5 hours. If you want cocktail hour coverage, a ceremony set, or the party runs past midnight, that's extra. Know exactly what's covered before you sign anything.

5. Add-ons

Photo booths, uplighting, dancing on clouds, CO2 cannons, cold sparks, dancing robots — each one is its own line item. A quote that bundles all of this is going to look very different from a DJ-only quote, and both are valid depending on what you want your night to look like.

6. Date and season

Saturday nights from May through October in NYC — you're going to pay peak pricing. We're talking 10–20% more than an off-season Friday. And the better companies fill up 12–18 months out. If you're engaged and haven't started calling yet, don't wait.

RED FLAGS TO WATCH OUT FOR

QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE YOU SIGN

  1. How many weddings have you done in the NYC area?
  2. Will the same DJ/MC who I meet be the one at my wedding?
  3. Do you provide a dedicated MC, or does the DJ do both?
  4. Are you bilingual? Can the MC host in English and Spanish?
  5. What is included in the package — hours, equipment, uplighting?
  6. Do you carry liability insurance?
  7. What is your backup plan if equipment fails or you get sick?
  8. How many meetings/consultations are included before the event?
  9. Do you coordinate with the photographer, videographer, and venue?
  10. When is the final music selection due?

IS A WEDDING DJ WORTH IT?

Yes. Your DJ and MC are the hosts of your entire reception — they control the energy, the pace, the announcements, the transitions, the dancefloor. I've seen a mediocre venue turned into an unforgettable night because the entertainment was on point. I've also seen beautiful ballrooms go completely flat because the DJ was just pressing play and hoping for the best.

Your guests are going to forget the centerpieces. They're not going to forget whether they danced all night or checked their phones at the table by 9pm. Spend accordingly.
